Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
What can I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is mostly about getting to know each other. We’ll ask questions about what brings you in, your goals, and a little about your background. You don’t need to prepare anything — just come as you are. We’ll talk about what you’d like to work on, and you’ll learn how counseling works so you feel comfortable with the process. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard and understood.
How often will we meet?
Most clients start by meeting once a week so we can build momentum and make steady progress. Over time, as you feel stronger and more confident, we may move to every other week or less often. Together, we’ll decide what pace feels right for you and your needs.
What types of therapy do you offer?
We use a person-centered approach, which means we meet you where you are and tailor therapy to your unique needs. Some of the approaches we draw from include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): helps identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): a highly effective treatment for trauma and painful memories.
Trauma-informed therapy: focused on creating safety and healing after difficult experiences.
Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychology, Adlerian, and Family Systems approaches: tools we may integrate depending on your goals.

Is counseling covered with my plan?
Do I have a copay or deductible?

What is the therapy process like?
Counseling is a collaborative journey. In each session, we explore your concerns, identify patterns, and work toward the goals you set. Therapy may include discussion, skill-building exercises, and evidence-based techniques such as CBT, EMDR, or trauma-informed methods. Progress depends on your unique needs, and sessions are tailored to help you feel supported, gain clarity, and develop tools for real-life challenges.
